Podiatric Medicine & Surgery Residency Conference Held at TRMC —

Trinity Regional Medical Center Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency, and Synthes Internal Fixation sponsored a workshop for residents and students to learn about internal fixation in foot and ankle surgery August 8, at Trinity Regional Medical Center.

Paul Dayton, DPM, and Dustin Prins, DPM, presented lectures which covered topics about the biology and physiology of bone healing, specific fixation techniques for First MPJ Fusion, Lapidus Bunionectomy among other podiatric procedures. Following each lecture, attendees were able to get hands on experience using the latest techniques for foot and ankle procedures by practicing applying internal fixation provided by Synthes on saw bones.

“The goal of the conference was to raise awareness about state-of-the-art techniques, ongoing research, and Evidenced Based education provided by Trinity’s Podiatry Residency program,” stated Dr. Dayton about the conference. “All the research findings presented were from medical research done at Trinity.” Dr. Dayton plans on making the conference a bi-annual event for students and residents as part of the current Evidence Based educational curriculum of TRMC PM&S 36 residency program.

Over 45 residents and students attended the conference. Other instructors on hand to help lead discussion were Scott Torness, DPM, Mindi Feilmeier, DPM, Dustin Prins, DPM, Resident, John Paul Haulard, DPM, Resident and Jeff Weinke, DPM, Resident.
